After more than a decade of Chinese opposition to the blacklisting, diplomatic efforts achieved the black listing of Maulana Azhar Masood, leader and founder of the Pakistan based military group Maulana Azhar Masood.
The reasons for the listing are based on terrorist attacks conducted in India by group members, including the bombing which killed more than 40 officials in February 2019.
One event was withdrawn from the list in order to eliminate the Chinese objection.
The effects of UN blacklisting include travel ban and assets freezing orders.
