Supreme Court sentenced ruling party leader to jail

Romania’s supreme court has sentenced Mr. Liviu Dragnea (Leader of the Social Democratic Party) to a 3 and a Half year incarceration following the corruption charges against him.

While Romania continue to be questioned on its respect to the rule of law, the leader of the ruling party will be serving a 3 and a half year prison sentence for grafting.

In interim, the party will be lead by the Prime Minister Mr. Viorica Dancila.

It is to note that the referendum to imitate judiciary powers was positively supported by a large majority.

While being scouted to prison, protesters were celebrating and shouting “To jail”, showing the division between government supporters and opposition.
