UN decides to maintain the embargo and sanctions imposed to South Sudan

South Sudan is under economic sanctions and arm embargo by the Security Council of the United Nations.

Regardless the position of the representatives of African nations, China and Russia, sanctions has been extended.

In 2018 a peace deal was set, nonetheless, observers noted that the key elements of such deal are not yet in place.

The resolution (sponsored by the USA) got 10 votes in the council, and therefore, entered into force.

US officials noted that to stop the conflict, the flow of illegal weapons must be stopped.

German Ambassador to the UN noted that there should be no need of weapons in country searching to implement a peace process.
